When I was working in the laboratory, story ideas would leap at me and I wished I had some vehicle through which I would have been able to communicate them. I am a chemist and I did a lot of data crunching throughout the day but I wanted to write. I missed writing.
I am an English Professor of Writing. I have a B.A. in English with a specialization in Writing, a B.S. in Chemistry, a M.A. in Journalism and a M.S. in Analytical Chemistry. I had various careers because of my education and special interests. However, I always thought of the magazine, Spirit: A magazine designed for the diverse woman, my dear friend, Sammer Ghouleh had established years ago, in 2003. I had enjoyed writing for this magazine and was very proud of its success and how it was able to reach out to millions of readers. I missed writing about my experiences, giving advice and sharing ideas.
Recently, I met with Sammer and she asked my opinion about reviving Spirit and instead of having a print edition or hard copy placing the magazine on the web. I felt that this was an excellent idea. In this digital age, this was the best way to go. It would be a free, inexpensive electronic publication available to all. I was excited about this not so new venture.
Spirit magazine welcomes our dedicated members back and our newest readers. I would like to introduce you or if you are already familiar with Spirit magazine to reintroduce you to a publication that unites all women of diverse backgrounds regardless of color, ethnicity, faith or race. The mission of this magazine is, and always will be, to build a bridge of respect and understanding amongst all the cultures of the world.
